Talk about a proud Zimbabwean moment when 16 year old Donel Mangena hit the The Voice UK stage and not only represented the Ndebele and Zimbabwean people but he set the stage on fire. Donel has been making waves across the Uk and Zimbabwe for his stellar performances each week. What makes him unique is his connection with his grandmother who he says is a very integral part of his life.
What captivates crowds towards the young man is his energy that simply electrifies the whole room especially when he breaks into the Ndebele singing and just blends in with the music. Regardless of the fact that he is British by birth and speaks very good British english his Ndebele sounds amazing and very fluent.
He told The Voice producers that his Dad is his inspiration, the father-and-son duo have a studio at their house. The talented youngster wowed the judges on The Voice UK as he performed Major Lazer’s Cold Water in the blind audition round. All four judges turned around for Donel but it was his grandmother Nita who stormed the stage to show off her dance moves that stole the show. Donel stormed past Rhianna Abrey in the Battles before his performance of Bruno Mars’ Finesse was enough to get himself onto the live shows. His rendition of Pharell Williams’ Happy sealed his spot in the final.Will.I.Am revealed that Donel had been invited to perform at the Queen’s birthdayparty:
“Donel is a really special artist, he’s fantastic.”He’s only had three performances on TV and he gets that. Do you know how many times we’ve had to perform and we ain’t got no letter!”
We are rooting for Donel to win in the finals which will be showing on ITV Choice channel 123 on DSTV Saturday 7 April 2018 !
